Our client, a major global chemical company located in the greater Houston area, has an immediate opening for a Safety & Auditing Specialist.  This position will report to the Manager of Safety, Health & Auditing in the Corporate Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) organization. This position is bonus-eligible and an excellent relocation plan is available. The responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:  

Providing occupational safety-related expertise and regulatory interpretation to Company-owned facilities and the Headquarters office

  • Planning and performing safety audits as part of the overall EHS audit process at Company-owned facilities
  • Maintaining, analyzing, trending and reporting company incident data
  • Developing and/or updating company safety and health programs, procedures, and best practices
  • Facilitating and/or participating in incident investigations, as requested  

 Requirements

  • a Bachelors in Safety Engineering; Industrial Health; Safety & Fire Protection; or a closely related field
  • a minimum of 7 years of occupational safety experience, preferably in the petrochemical industry
  • strong leadership skills and be proficient at solving complex problems and analyzing unique issues
  • a high level of motivation, and be a self-starter able to handle multiple tasks concurrently as well as work with little or no supervision
  • Superior communication skills, both oral and written, as well as strong interpersonal skills required
  • Ability to listen well is also essential 
  • a passion to excel, be customer focused and results driven, and have the ability to effectively collaborate and work with personnel at various levels throughout the company
  • the ability to travel overnight 30 - 40% of the time and be proficient in the utilization of Microsoft Office computer applications
  • certification as either a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) (strongly preferred) and/or Certified Professional Auditor (CPEA) (preferred)
